Tiger Woods got 2008 off to an epic start despite rain warnings and noose covers by dominating the field at Torrey Pines by 8 strokes, his fourth straight Buick Invitational.
Djokovic becomes the first Serbian male to win a Grand Slam singles tournament with a four-set victory over unseeded Tsonga, 4-6,6-4,6-3,7-6(2). Djokovic lost only 1 set in seven matches leading up to the finals. Despite the win “Nole” will still be seeded either 3 or at best 2 in the next two Grand Slam events. Does he need to show some staying power or is he the next ‘perpetual number 1’?

On the Women's side Maria Sharapova defeated Ana Ivanovic 7-5,6-3 Already a champion at Wimbledon in 2004 and the US Open in 2006, Sharapova now has three of the four majors in her trophy cabinet heading to the French Open after adding the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup to her collection with the win.

Canada beats the USA 4-1 advance to finals

Three-time defending champion Canada beat the United States 4-1 on Friday and will face Sweden in the final of the world junior hockey championships.
Five-time Grand Slam champion Martina Hingis was banned from tennis for two years and, perhaps of more significance, her reputation was tarnished Friday, when it was announced she was found guilty of testing positive for cocaine at the All England Club.
A three-person, independent tribunal flatly rejected Hingis' defense, calling it "a simple and straightforward case." She can appeal the ruling, but her manager said she won't.
